More Pictures

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

One advantage to being under the weather is that I get to catch up on things. I should be reading, but my eyes are not in the mood. Another cold/sinuses/whatever issue.

I had wanted to post some pictures of Crazy Horse in South Dakota but had not gotten around to it, so here ya go.

This is what it looks like today.

This is what it will look like some day!!!!!!!!

Made Easier

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

Posting made easier. I just went through all of the settings on my blog and realized that the default setting for people to post was that they had to be a member of blogger. Well, I've changed that now so it should no longer require you to sign-up for anything if you try to post.

Well, back to doctoring this cold, or sinuses, or whatever the heck is wrong with me. (Another symptom of mid-termitis).

Mid-Term Over

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

Well, mid-term is over and things are usually down hill from here, and not in a good way. You struggle the entire first of the semester attempting to stay caught up, but by the time mid-term hits, I usually throw up my hands and say "what-ever." I am at that point now. With only about 5 full weeks of class left, I have 5 novels to read for one class and 5 for another. Actually, make that 4 now, I just read The Color Purple by Alice Walker yesterday. I love that book. It had been a while since I read it and it was a pleasure to re-read it, although time consuming.

I had been riding the motorcycle to school everyday until this past week when the temperature finally decided to plummet and the sky has remained overcast. I need to get out the cold weather gear so that I can get back on it. Not only is the gas mileage so much better, but it really lifts my spirits to get to ride daily. It's an 80 mile round trip a day for me, so it ain't no short ride either.

I can't believe that we turn back the clocks tonight. That means it will be getting dark by 4:00 o'clock before long and that can be a bit depressing. Halloween is Monday, but that is just never enough time to devote to it. I haven't even carved my jack-o-lantern. Guess I'll save that home-grown pumpkin for pies. Had a volunteer plant come up under my deck this year and I couldn't tell at first if it were watermelon or pumpkin. By August there were tons of blooms, but no fruit set on and I didn't think there would be. By September though, I noticed a small, green a little larger than a softball pumpkin up under the deck. From then on I just watched her grow. It made one of the nicest, big pumpkins I have ever seen. Definitely gotta make some pies. Just in case you haven't noticed, it is only four short weeks until Thanksgiving. Sometimes a little reminder is a good thing.

Well, off to read Maggie by Stephen Crane. Probably not one of my most favorites, but at least it's short!!!!

P.S. I know posting is a pain, but sometimes I wonder if anyone really reads this stuff.

One More Try

Saturday, October 22, 2005

After a month of fighting with Starband, perhaps things have settled down and I will be able to get this to post on the first try. If so, I will once again begin making post on a regular basis. If not, I'll have to see if it is perhaps this particular blogging site because for the past week or so Starband (my ISP provider) has been working great. Perhaps I had two problems, we'll soon see.

Dissertation work is going slowly. I want to thank Cheryl for emailing me with a listserve dealing with motorcycle scholarship. I can't wait to get signed up and see what I can learn. Just reading all the old AMA articles written by Motor Maids is informative. For my dissertaion, I can't really use personal interviews, but if anyone out there has kept motorcycling diaries, I would be interested in learning more and possibly getting a copy.

Two weeks ago I was at a conference in Jacksonville, FL where I presented a paper on the first Motor Maid constitution. So few people in academic circles know anything about the Motor Maids. It's almost as if they are the best kept secret in the US. Is this a good thing, or bad? I don't know. At any rate, no one in the audience knew anything about the club, and since other presenters on various topics had taken more than their alloted time, I was able to just talk about the group and a little about the first constitution. A very informal presentation, but I enjoy that kind better. The weather was not conducive to beach walking, but seafood eating was spot on.

Hopefully, this will post the first time, and we'll be back on track. (If I haven't lost all my readers.)
