Saturday, October 29th, 2005Well, mid-term is over and things are usually down hill from here, and not in a good way. You struggle the entire first of the semester attempting to stay caught up, but by the time mid-term hits, I usually throw up my hands and say "what-ever." I am at that point now. With only about 5 full weeks of class left, I have 5 novels to read for one class and 5 for another. Actually, make that 4 now, I just read
The Color Purple by Alice Walker yesterday. I love that book. It had been a while since I read it and it was a pleasure to re-read it, although time consuming.
I had been riding the motorcycle to school everyday until this past week when the temperature finally decided to plummet and the sky has remained overcast. I need to get out the cold weather gear so that I can get back on it. Not only is the gas mileage so much better, but it really lifts my spirits to get to ride daily. It's an 80 mile round trip a day for me, so it ain't no short ride either.
I can't believe that we turn back the clocks tonight. That means it will be getting dark by 4:00 o'clock before long and that can be a bit depressing. Halloween is Monday, but that is just never enough time to devote to it. I haven't even carved my jack-o-lantern. Guess I'll save that home-grown pumpkin for pies. Had a volunteer plant come up under my deck this year and I couldn't tell at first if it were watermelon or pumpkin. By August there were tons of blooms, but no fruit set on and I didn't think there would be. By September though, I noticed a small, green a little larger than a softball pumpkin up under the deck. From then on I just watched her grow. It made one of the nicest, big pumpkins I have ever seen. Definitely gotta make some pies. Just in case you haven't noticed, it is only four short weeks until
Thanksgiving. Sometimes a little reminder is a good thing.
Well, off to read
Maggie by Stephen Crane. Probably not one of my most favorites, but at least it's short!!!!
Dianna
P.S. I know posting is a pain, but sometimes I wonder if anyone really reads this stuff.
